As a part of the Low Carbon Model Town Taskforce activities of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) [ref. News No.4], study mission tours by intellectuals from APEC member economies are carried out every year, and Michi is participating the tours regularly.

This year’s tour took place between July 22 and August 1 inclusive, and visited Canadian cities of Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto, and an American city of Philadelphia, and obtained first-hand look at the efforts towards the low-carbon cities. The study mission team also had discussions with such world-class authorities in city indicators as Professor Patricia McCarney of University of Toronto and Professor Eugenie Birch of University of Pennsylvania, as a part to its effort to establish APEC low carbon town indicators.

The team was composed of specialists from Thailand, China, Chinese Taipei, and Canada, and was led by the General Manager of Research Department, Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre.
